Are you happy, Mr. Superman?

Crush, Mix, Burn, Repeat.

Flames and tranquillity

I tire of this place. I have been here far too long. My current contract is due to come to a close some time in the new year. That date, whenever it may be, cannot come soon enough. I am sick of the same thing, day in, day out. There is no peace for me to find upon these streets and it is not for lack of trying.
Today I drove out to the lake I once regarded as my own personal heaven. It has only been a few weeks since my last visit but the landscape I fell in love with was hardly recognisable.
A dark grey sky loomed heavily over the murky black waters. I groaned in pain as I began my approach. The barren carcases of trees stood solemnly around the perimeter of the lake, like relatives surrounding a grave as they mourn the loss of the family head. I took out a cigarette and lit it, making my way to the waters edge. Decaying leaves crunched and rustled under my feet as I walked. This season inspires a level of contempt within me that is unnatural.
The air was no longer still, as it has been upon every other visit. Instead, a severe wind roared. Had it not been for the surrounding hills providing shelter the water would not have seemed so hauntingly still in a valley of swaying, creaking trees.
I looked down upon my reflection, taking drag after drag of the cigarette. I wished to see nightmarish creatures in those waters ripping the hollow eyed doppelgänger to pieces, de-constructing flesh and bone before my very eyes. I was bitterly disappointed when my mind failed to conjure such beasts. It was not long before this scene was complete. As I stood, desperately seeking my own demise, I saw a single splash upon the surface of the lake. Closely followed by another, then a few more. I raised my head to the sky and faced the first volley of rain sent by the oncoming storm. Seconds later the clouds broke and a torrential downpour began.
My tears were masked by the rain but the curse that I offered up to the gods was yelled loud enough to express the truth of the emotions that raged within me.
In that moment I could see the surrounding forests ablaze inside my mind. Ash fell upon the landscape with the rain and the surface of the water boiled ferociously, spewing and spitting savagely into blackest sky I have ever dared to imagine.
I turned my back upon this heaven and walked away.
